Sustainability has been identified as one of the most pressing challenges facing further and higher education. Sustainability considerations cut across the core functions of education, research, management operations of those organisations. This volume argues that it has implications for the core of the institutional culture – influencing the decisions, procedures and actions of the further and higher education sector.

This volume provides the conceptual basis for understanding Environmental Education (EE)'s contributions to sustainability. It attempts to define the components of learning for sustainability approaches as well as the influence they have had on EE as an area of learning. It differentiates between traditional EE practice and more 'critical' approaches to learning prompted by the sustainability agenda.

The Integrated Sustainability Analysis team is a multi-disciplinary research team at The University of Sydney.
